On my last post I said, it was "the last straw that broke the camels back and she needs help."
Well the harsh reality is that we had to deal with the unthinkable. Getting therapist advice on
people addicted on Methadone is a serious problem AND they need to have it in order to function. So no matter what, she needs the drug just to do daily things. Like eating, drinking water, and walking.
Without it, (like going cold turkey) is impossible. You are basically asking for a death wish.
Well Ralph and I FINALLY told her she needs rehab. PERIOD! And we are willing to take her anywhere to get her started and get her the help she needs to get off of that drug.
All weekend long we have been trying to call so many places to see what we need to do to get her admitted. So we had to take her to the ER so that the detox center can see her vitals and see what they need to do before they can get her in.
Well....THE MOST SCARIEST, HORRIFYING THING HAPPENED!!!!!!!!
We were driving to the hospital to have her take basically a drug test and she had a seazier (sp) in my car!!!! It was either a seazier or a sever panic attack!!! Literally driving off the road to pull over and I'm on the phone with 911 and her brother Ralph is in the back seat trying to help her start breathing again. Her body was completely stiff and shaking so hard. Her eyes were completely dilated and she was like foaming at the mouth. By the time the police and ambulance got there she was starting to breath again and her color was getting back to normal.
They rushed her off to the hospital and driving behind her...I lost it. I had so much adrenaline that I was starting to feel again and I was crying, shaking myself because I was so scared.
I have never been in that kind of situation before and I pray to God that I will never go through that ever again.
So you are thinking, what is next???
Well, she is fine. The hospital got her under control, relaxed and she is now in Detox. I believe she will be there for 5 days and I'm hoping within that amount of time she can then get into some kind of program to get her off of those drugs. Bottom line, she needs rehab!!!!!! She needs help from professionals that know what they are doing to get her back on her feet. Ralph and I are just not the right people to help her. We told her that if Ralph can administer her intake, then that is fine. But in all reality, we do not want to become enablers. We want to see her back on her feet, happy and healthy. We don't want her to depend on us for one reason, We struggle enough as it is, #2 we can't afford to take her to her doctors every day to get her daily dose, and #3 I think we are just so scared from what we saw that we do not want to go threw that again.
But I do want to make very clear about Steph. She really is a Wonderful, sweet, very kind, loving person. She does have great work ethics and she is fun to be around. She does have a great personality, and a great sense of humor. She just got into the wrong crowd and is having a hard time getting out. We all know how much potential she has and we all know that she can get better. Its just the whole fact that she is the only one who can take that step. She knows we are all behind her 100%, but she is the only one who has to say "Yes, I want the help."
I'm sure you are all thinking, "Wow that is a lot of drama." Well I guess people are right, You never know what is going on behind closed doors. I say it how it is because if there is anyone who passes judgement, I would like to say you have no clue on what people are going threw. Even though Ralph and I are not married yet, Stephanie is my sister-in-law and I love her dearly. I would do anything for her and as you all can see I'm doing the best I can. And I know my Ralph is doing the same thing. And what is even more crazy, we have been dealing with this for about 3 weeks, can you imagine families that are going through the same thing but for longer? We have been in a whole different world and all of the doctors, councilors, caseworkers, they ALL have said the same thing and that is, you would be amazed on how many people we might know that is having an addiction problem. And this is just in a little tiny community. The SLV is small and there are SO MANY PEOPLE that are going through the same thing we are.
So I ask of you, Please pray for Stephanie. Even if you don't know her. Please pray and help uplift her spirit. She is lost and I know she is half way down that tunnel. I know the light is right there waiting for her. Please pray that she will get the help she needs and to get healthy. Please pray...
